Woman falls into arms of hero

Read the news in the Star today of a heroic job by our Fire and Rescue Department.

My hat off to the team members espcially C. Kesavan. I think he deserve  an award for this act of heroism.

JOHOR BARU: A fireman dashed forward without a second thought and stretched out his arms to break the fall of a distraught woman who fell from the top floor of a three-storey shophouse here.

The 25-year-old woman had apparently wanted to jump from the building in Taman Pelangi at 8.25am yesterday but 12 firemen from the Larkin fire station had calmed her.

However, after 50 minutes, the woman slipped from the ledge she was perched on and fell, screaming Allahhuakbar! (Allah is great).

Operations commander C. Kesaven dashed forward and broke her fall. She first fell on his head and then into his outstretched arms.

When met, Kesaven was modest about his heroic act, mumbling only: “It’s part of my job (to save people).”

The woman, he said, did not have any serious injuries and had been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for further examination.

“She had been renting a room on the third floor of the building. We believe she has marital problems,” he said.

The woman had earlier locked the door to her room, preventing firemen from entering and rescuing her from the ledge.

Firemen outside the building began setting up airbags and implementing other safety measures.

Kesaven said they did not want to break down the door, fearing that the shock and tremor might cause the woman to fall.

“We took every safety precaution. We’re glad that a tragedy was prevented,” he added.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Abd Ghani Daud commended Kesaven for his bravery.

“I am really proud of him and the rest of his men. He risked his own life to rescue the woman,” he said.

My 2-scene on Google Earth

While virtually exploring Malaysia on Google Earth, I stumbled upon a couple of interesting scenes. They are reproduced below:

1) The engineers who built these highways should be fired! :-)

2) A Ghost Plane flying in Penang?

Errors In Malaysian Miniature Sheets

Thought I’ll share with my readers a couple of errors I discovered in recent Malaysian Miniature Sheets.

I spotted a tiny yellow circle printed on the top left hand corner of the recent Unique Flowers Issue of 9th October 2008. The spot can clearly be seen on the scan below. I can’t explain what caused this extra spot on the sheet.

The Second error is a perforation error on the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 Miniature Sheet whereby an extra 3 sided perfs were punched into the wrong side of the image as per scans below.

Chicken Cops?

The Malaysian Police became the laughing stock of the nation and possibly the world when the Home Minister declared in Parliament that a police beat base located in a crime-prone area was abandoned because it was unsafe for the police officers to be based there.

If it is unsafe for the police, how safe is it for the public?

And if I am not mistaken, it is the job of the police to make the place safe for everybody. Am I missing something here?

Sheeesh! What a clown of a Minister!

KUALA LUMPUR: A police beat base located in the Chow Kit area of downtown Kuala Lumpur has been shut down because the “presence of criminals could make it unsafe” for police officers.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said the beat base was located in a dirty area where police faced the possibility of being exposed to contagious diseases.

The presence of criminals also posed a threat to the safety of police officers.

He said this in a written reply to Dr Lo’ Lo’ Mohamad Ghazali (PAS - Titiwangsa).

Dr Lo’ Lo’ had asked why the beat base along Jalan Haji Taib was closed considering that vice activities were high in the area.

She also wanted to know what kind of action had been taken by the police to curb vice activities in the Chow Kit area.

Police Report for insulting Eggs

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the following words in a newspaper:

“The Seputeh Umno Youth division lodged a police report today against Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, claiming she had insulted the Royal Malaysian Police and the egg, which is an essential food of the underprivileged.”

I don’t know if they are trying to insult the police or what. I do not know whether to laugh or to cry. These clowns are showing the world their intellect. On the other hand, it is so sad and worrying because the person who lodge the report is a local leader of the dominant Party of the Federal Government.

I guess this can only happen in Malaysia. Only in Boleh Land can a police report be lodged for insulting an egg.

God save Malaysia!
